S.M.A.R.T Alarm Clock using Arduino

When you don’t want to miss an appointment, you set up an alarm. But what if you forget to setup the alarm in the first place? What if you forget to regulate your alarms with so many things to be alarmed of or reminded about in our day lives full of to-do lists? Don’t tell me this has happened to you and you haven’t searched for a better answer than your regular alarm clock.
This maker’s answer for you: an internet-activated alarm clock, programmable via your email, and which can even let you know if friends or family (or boss?) sends an urgent email.
The maker calls this alarm clock S.M.A.R.T. Alarm Clock for it sums up its features: this is a ‘Setup for Meetings, Appointments, Reminders, and Tasks’ created on an arduino Yún. The Arduino Yún is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega32u4 and the Atheros AR9331. The Atheros processor supports a Linux distribution based on OpenWrt named OpenWrt-Yun. The board has built-in Ethernet and wifi, a USB-A port, slot for micro-SD card and connection for a micro USB. The advantage that Yún provides with this DIY is that complex internet services can be linked with the Linux processor, while the hardware can be configured to the second processor.
The software for the S.M.A.R.T. Alarm Clock uses the Temboo service. This enables the clock to be configured using google calendar and email services. Temboo has a pretty smooth compatibility with the Arduino Yún.
So what are you waiting for? Make one of your own and use it to wake up or get a reminder whenever you think is needed. This alarm clock, more than any other (and we have had others, like this or this or this ), will allow you to sleep in peace.
