MIT Develops a Floating Drone Sensor Platform

Maybe we should be a little concerned at the speed of development and product introduction of drone technology. It seems like this relatively cheap product that looks like a toy but is not, is really changing our world.

Researchers at MIT, realizing this change and the fact that we will need to interact with drones as part of tomorrow’s society have developed a drone that floats on water. It is capable of being fitted with a variety of sensors including air and water quality. Each drone communicates with other drones to form a swarm ( scary word, lets go with flock) that can also communicate with the cloud for data upload and instructions.

There are so many good applications that are possible with these devices that it is likely that we may miss the dangers that are inherent in such a cheap and accessible technology.

Take a look and see whether you see a bright future full of drone helpers or a bad science fiction movie.
